Candidate Qualifications/Information

In order for a person to be eligible for election to a county office they must meet the following qualifications.

Arizona Resident
County Resident
At least 18 years of age
Qualified Elector

Recorder
Sheriff
Treasurer
Superior Court Clerk
Supervisor Must be resident of district to run/must remain in district during term
Justice of the Peace Must be resident of district to run/must remain in district during term
County Attorney Attorney, licensed and in good standing in Arizona
School Superintendent Hold a regular certificate to teach in Arizona
Superior Court Judge At least 30 years of age and admitted to Arizona Bar for 5 years
School Board Member Must be resident of district to run/must remain in district during term
Community College Board Member Must be resident of district to run/must remain in district during term
Fire District/Hospital District, etc. Must be resident of district to run/must remain in district during term
Precinct Committeemen Must be member of party & resident of precinct to run/must remain in precinct during term

 

  • Candidates for office must circulate petitions and gather the required number of signatures to have their name placed on the primary ballot.
  • Candidates must file a $500 Threshold Exemption Statement or Statement of Organization for both the Primary and General Elections prior to circulating any petitions.
  • Candidates must comply with all campaign finance reporting laws. Campaign Finance requirements are covered in A.R.S. §16-901 to 918.
  • Candidates for county offices must file with the Graham County Elections Director at the above address.Candidates must terminate their committee at the end of the election cycle.
  • Candidates for state and federal offices must file with the Office of the Secretary of State, Elections Division, 1700 W. Washington, 7th floor, Phoenix, Arizona (602) 542-VOTE (8683).
  • Candidates for school office must file with the School Superintendent’s Office.
