Food and Sanitation

The purpose of Environmental Health Services (listed as Food and Sanitation) is to educate and protect the public and businesses in regards to food safety, sanitation, and vector borne and zoonotic disease. This is accomplished through:

  • Food establishment, septic system, and well application (less than five acres) plan reviews
  • Inspections
  • Issuance of permits
  • Mosquito trapping
  • Regulatory enforcement
  • Submitting mosquito and suspected rabies samples to the state lab for testing

Inspections

All businesses operating under a Health Department permit are inspected regularly, including:

  • Food establishments
    • Grocery stores
    • Mobile units
    • Restaurants
    • School kitchens
    • Taverns
    • Other Similar Businesses
  • Garbage haulers
  • Hotels/motels
  • Public and semi-public swimming pools and spas
  • RV and trailer parks
  • Temporary food events

New & Replacement Septic Systems

For new and replacement septic systems, the department reviews and approves plans, and inspects systems following installation. The goal of this process is a septic system that will meet the needs of the current (and future) homeowners, and protect the environment from improperly treated wastewater.
