Vector Surveillance

During warm weather, Environmental Health Staff collect mosquitoes using specialized traps. Mosquito specimens are sent to the ADHS Laboratory to determine if they carry certain viruses that can affect humans. These viruses include West Nile Virus, St. Louis Encephalitis and Western Equine Encephalitis. Wild animals may also be tested to determine if they are carrying disease, i.e., Rabies. For detailed information go to our Graham County Environmental Health Services department.
