How Long Will I Receive WIC Benefits?

A "certification period" is the length of time a WIC participant is eligible to receive benefits. The length of the certification varies depending on whether the participant is pregnant, postpartum, breastfeeding, or is an infant or a child. The certification period most often ranges from 6 months to 1 year. At the end of the certification period, the individual must reapply in order to be determined eligible for another period unless they are now ineligible based on the categories that WIC serves; for example, a child who has turned 5 years old is no longer eligible for the program.
